Vertical Velocity
The other best ride at Six Flags Great America! This
little Intamin beauty opened in 2001 and is such a rush! The ride looks
totally stupid: a giant, awkward U shape, but it's really a lot of fun.
The ride uses magnets to launch the train, accelerate it (both forwards
and backwards), brake the train vertically 180 feet in the air, and
(finally) stop it smoothly at the end of the ride. Nothing ever physically
touches the train, it's all done with magnets. Very, very cool..
