Greezed Lightnin'
This ride originally opened in 1978 at Six Flags Great
America, and it was named Tidal Wave. I had heard so many stories about this ride from my Chicago
friends, so it was a real treat to get a chance to ride it. I had ridden a
different Schwarzkopf shuttle loop at Knotts,
Montezooma's Revenge, and it was awesome. The version at Knott's is newer, and
uses a spinning flywheel to launch the train ... however the train on
Greezed Lightnin' is launched by a weight being dropped in a tower under
the front spike.
Anton Schwarzkopf was such a freaking genius, these rides were so far ahead
of their time..
