Powder Keg: A blast in the wilderness
W - O - WI knew next to nothing about Powder Keg before my trip, and I was absolutely floored by how great it is. I suppose I shouldn't be too surprised, since Avalanche (a wood coaster designed by S&S) is also one of my favorites. However aside from this simply being a good coaster, it has amazing theming. The queue and station are all built to look like a black-powder storage building, and the coaster litrally blasts out of there. Wach a video of it here.
The ride is fun, with excellent air-time and great turns. There is also a lift-hill mid-ride, which is a nice break after the totally frantic first half.
Interesting: the ride was initially built as a water-ride, but converted into its present incarnation for the 2005 season. Great move!
