Mister Freeze

I didn't know what to expect with Mr. Freeze, and I was really blown away by it. I know that I'm starting to sound like a broken record with the "I didn't know what to expect with.." line, but it's really true. I did very little research before this trip, and so much of it was really, really good.

Mr. Freeze is what's known as a shuttle coaster - which means that the track is not a complete circuit. The train travels along the track until it ends, and then it travels (backwards) all the way back to the station. Mr. Freeze adds an extra trick in that the train is launched: 0-70MPH in 3.8 seconds. The ride is well themed, going so far as to super-aircondition the station (so it's very cold in there).

There is a unique transfer track in the station so that the ride actually runs two trains; train A is (un)loading while train B is on the track. When train B returns to the station it is slid sideways to a loading platform so that train A can slide sideways to the launch position. Now train A can launch and do the ride, while train B (un)loads. It's very cool. Crowds were light when I was there so they only ran one train, but I would have liked to watch two trains... Watch a video of the launch here, notice how the lights dim!

Mr. Freeze also earns points for just having a lap-bar, rather than a full over-the-shoulder harness. Thank-you!
